Briggs Cunningham Honored in New Web Site
New web site dedicated to telling the story of a great American sportsman

MADISON, WI - February 15, 2005 -- Race Legends, Inc., the world's leading vintage motorsport celebrity agency, today announces the public unveiling of a new web site honoring Briggs Cunningham. The site can be found at www.briggscunningham.com

Cunningham, who died on July 2, 2003, was a well-known American sportsman who so loved the sport of motor racing that he built a team around cars of his own design and construction, with the overriding goal of achieving an all-American victory at the classic 24 Hours of Le Mans, France. Cunningham and his drivers entered over 680 races in a competition career that started in 1940 and lasted until 1966. One of Team Cunningham’s most notable achievements was placing third, seventh and tenth in the 1953 Le Mans, at a time when American-built sports cars were not yet considered to be competitive against more established European marques.

Briggs was also a master yacht racer, leading an American consortium to successfully defend the 1958 America’s Cup at the helm of Columbia.

John Fitch, who raced in Cunningham cars throughout the 1950s, said “I had many races and many adventures with Briggs and his cars. I think this web site really tells the story of his passion for racing and competition. I'm proud to be part of this effort.”

The site, designed by Race Legends’ interactive team led by Kane Rogers, profiles Cunningham’s life, his cars and more. Detailed research by motorsport historian Larry Berman comprehensively fills out the racing record of the Cunningham team for the first time.

“I’m proud of the results our team has produced,” said Donn Gurney, president of Race Legends. “I think this web site makes an important contribution to the history of American motor racing and the American sporting tradition that Briggs Cunningham represents.”
